Buttercream Frosting

This is the only frosting recipe you will ever need. It’s my prized possession and has been refined over many, many years. Use responsibly.

Ingredients

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 0 minutes

Yield: 24 generously frosted cupcakes

  • 1 1/2c unsalted butter (3 sticks, room temperature)

  • 4c powdered sugar

  • 4 tbs heavy cream

  • 1/2 tbs vanilla

  • If topping with sprinkles i plan 1/2 tsp per cupcake

Making the Frosting

  1. Cream the butter until light and fluffy.

  2. Add the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Turn the mixer off to add the sugar, and then turn on very low until incorporated. Then turn up to medium for 1-2 minutes to really incorporate. You will do this for each cup of powdered sugar.

  3. Add the heavy cream 1 tbs at a time, mixing at medium-high speed each time

  4. Add 1/2 tbs vanilla and incorporate

You can always add more or less powdered sugar or heavy cream depending on your preferred level of sweetness and texture. Just be careful with the heavy whipping cream as it will soften the frosting really fast, and you will have to add in more powdered sugar to thicken it back up which can make it too sweet.
